REFORMS AND IMPROVEMENTS IN EXAMINATION SYSTEM
Education is a continuous and life process of learning. The quality of education is intrinsic. Ideally, the examinations are meant to test the higher abilities, application f knowledge, creative thinking, and problem-solving.
One of the main objectives of the Board is to regularly review its systems and operational areas to bring improvement; endeavor has been to bring fairness and objectivity in the results process and procedure. Some of the important inputs included in this respect are:
- Making Scheme
- Sample Papers
- The Performance Analysis
- Orientation Programmes and Head Examiners
- Participatory approach in the finalization of marking schemes
Marking Scheme
The reliability of assessment depends upon the degree of consistency with which the examiner marks the answer script.
- Each paper setter furnishes the marking scheme pertaining to the paper set by him.
- All the marking schemes are viewed and reviewed by a panel of moderators.
SAMPLE PAPERS
The Board receives constant feedback from the practicing faculties and students with reference to the changes in the syllabi and the question papers. The design of the question papers is therefore reviewed in the light of the feedback.
PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS
In addition to serving the purpose of certification and classification, examinations are also considered to be powerful tools for improving the teaching process. The analysis of student’s responses to different questions asked in the examination can serve to diagnose the weakness in learning as well as shortcomings in curriculum transactions.
ORIENTATION PROGRAMMES FOR HEAD EXAMINERS
A number of programs are being conducted for school Heads and prospective Head examiners of various subjects. The focus of programs is on information sharing about curricular changes, management of examination related data and how to enhance public confidence, marking actual answer books, discussions on value points and on the job training actual answer books, discussions on value points and on the job training in the art of evaluation center.
PARTICIPATORY APPROACH IN THE FINALISATION OF MARKING SCHEMES
Marking schemes were finalized through a participatory approach, and a sample of answer books of ascertaining their efficacy in actual setting was also marked by the participants to get clarification of difficult concepts and become familiar with the rationale of the Marking Schemes and quality evaluation.
